REARRANGEMENT
• No space to complete activities like crafts, work, or exercise.
• Require quick and easy access to a fixed office space.
• Feelings of exposure combined with not enough natural light.
• Lack of entertaining space or storage for outdoor activities.
• Bedroom doesn’t feel ‘snug’ or private from the rest of the house.
• No defined spaces and kitchen feels cluttered.
The circulation at the ground floor level can run over possible ‘usable’ areas in the house.
Additionally, any areas that are considered ‘usable’ are captured by furniture to store
the items of furniture considered permanent.
The bathroom is cramped, while conversely, the kitchen represents a considerable percentage of the existing floor area. Therefore, the floor plan gives the impression that there is no existing space that can be re-purposed without extending.
At the first floor level, the plan is open, and the area to the top of the project is a narrow and long zone which currently is the location for a bed.
The first floor contains 1/3rd of the usable space in the home and therefore represents a significant issue ready for an internal reconfiguration.
Keeping the entrance in the same place, the first move is to create a lobby. From here there are four options; a semi-enclosed office, a wc, the main living / kitchen space, and the bedroom suite. To the bottom of the plan is the semi-enclosed office which houses two of the main items of furniture required to be kept; the piano and office desk. A single stool is used to be the office desk or it can be used to play. To the side of the desk is an under window storage desk that can be used to house all crafts components, filing and supportive items for general home living. The side external wall can be used for hanging of coats and the storage unit can be constructed to allow for footwear.
First is the dining space, which spills into the middle of the room, illuminated by a roof light of a similar size as the desk. The fire has been moved to the opposite side of the room. The TV and living space is behind a semi-open wall where a 3-person sofa can be situated.
The kitchen has been modified to create an island, full height storage, combination of wall units, and a recess is used to hold the existing fridge. Some additional storage can be created under the stairs, accessed through the adjacent unit. Additionally, the existing window has been replaced by double doors allowing direct access to the bins, although this area can have units brought across to create an almost ‘c’ shaped kitchen space.

"Super fast response with pragmatic service and instilled a sense of trust. Pricing was very reasonable - not the cheapest, but, not the most expensive. Very professional but with a human, down to earth touch."
